We currently have a fabulous range of animal print sinamay in stock on our fabric floor for 6.99 per metre. Sinamay is used mostly in hat making as it is easy to mold into different shapes. However, if you find hat blocking a little too difficult, this tutorial will show you how you can make an animal print sinamay fascinator without blocking.

You will need:

1/2 metre of Sinamay in your chosen print

Needle and thread

Teardrop hat base

Sinamay Flower

1/2 metre of veiling

Iron

I chose an ivory hat base so that the leopard print sinamay would stand out against it. You will need to cut out a rectangle from your sinamay that is about the size of your hat base. Next pin the sinamay on to your hat base and sew it on around the edges. Sinamay is quite easy to bend and mold into shape over your teardrop base. You will need around 3 layers of this printed sinamay in order for the print to really stand out. If your hat loses its shape slightly when you are sewing it, don't worry, you can spray it with some millinery stiffener when you are finished.

Next I attached an ivory sinamay flower, sewing this on is the best way to keep it secure. 

I attached the veiling next, making sure to hide the stitches under the petals of the sinamay flower.

As an extra touch to this fascinator i decided to add in a little more of the patterned sinamay. To do this i made a quick sinamay ribbon. You can do this by folding a long strip of sinamay and ironing it into shape. 

I looped this sinamay ribbon 3 times and then attached it just under the base of the sinamay flower, again to hide the stitches.

You can now decide which way you would like to attach your hat using either a hairband, clips or hat elastic.
