Manos Del Uruguay Yarn
Posted by Aine on 12th Dec 2016
Manos Del Uruguay began as a non-profit organisation in 1968 to provide the women of rural Uruguay with job opportunities and also social and cultural opportunities. The organisation became a member of the World Fair Trade Organization in 2009 and their unique wool yarns are now distributed throughout Europe and America.
Manos Del Uruguay yarns are hand spun and dyed by craftswomen from rural areas of Uruguay. This gives Manos yarns a recognisable richness in colour and texture. Each skein is completely unique so there are no dye lots, this means you will have to work with alternating skeins of yarn when working on larger knitting or crochet projects.
We currently stock Manos Lace and Manos Clasica yarns in-store and on our online shop.
Manos lace is a luxurious blend of 70% Alpaca, 25% Silk and 5% Cashmere and it has been marked down from €22.20 to just €12.99. They come in both marbled and solid colours giving you an exquisite colour palette to work with. It is a 2ply lace weight yarn which is perfect for very delicate projects.
Manos Clasica yarn is the most traditional of the Manos range. It is a 100% wool yarn and is incredibly soft and warm. It is currently at a sale price of €7.95 a skein, down from €15.75. Thats 50% off! The variegated shades, Manos Clasica Multi yarn, are marked down to €10.99 from €18.50, that's another incredible saving!
Manos Clasica also come in a range of vividly dyed shades. The 100% wool content of this yarn makes it perfect for felting as well as knitting, crochet and weaving projects.
You can get the pattern for this beautiful Forest Park Cowl for free when you purchase Manos Clasica. It was knitted using two alternating skeins due to the difference in shade from one ball to the next. The result is a beautiful subtly mixed colour in your finished garment. Your finished piece could make a lovely and unique gift for someone!
