Find the right elastic for you!

At Vibes and Scribes we have noticed a huge number of our customers are turning to making their own face coverings. They are something we have all been encouraged to wear so making your own is a great option. Whether you are new to sewing or a seasoned professional there is a face mask pattern for you - you just need to find the one you are most comfortable with!

Once you have that, we have you covered for all the you will need - fabric, filtering layers and the most elusive item of them all - elastic! Elastic has been like gold dust over the last number of months, but don't worry - we have two great options for you that are soft, stretchy and just what you will need! We have a huge selection of 100% cotton, plain and patterned fabrics in every colour of the rainbow available online and in-store so choosing a fabric should be a breeze - there is something to suit every age and style. We always love to add a funky lining but that is completely up to you!)

It can be tricky to choose the best elastic for your face covering so we are going to focus on two different types today - flat elastic and round elastic - both of which will work with all of our fabrics. When selecting your elastic, we feel it is best to choose the softest elastic possible. As wearing a face covering is new to most of us it can take a while to get used to them so why not be kind to your ears and select a soft elastic that wont chafe or irritate? Some elastics can tire the back of your ears so it is worth trying a few different types to find the one that suits you the best.

 

If you prefer face covering where the elastic loops around the back of the ears our second elastic selection is just for you - 1mm round elastic. This elastic is super stretchy and easy on the ears. It is also perfect for any age group - adults and children alike. This is one of our most comfortable elastic options - ideal for anyone who is new to making and wearing face coverings! Both of our elastics are perfect for your re-usable, sustainable, washable, cotton face coverings! Our 1mm round elastic is available in  100m lengths at a cost of €35 and 300m for €75 - plenty to make face masks for all the the family!
