Winter Millinery

We hope everyone had a great time at our two millinery demonstrations on Sunday the 13th! Colleen made a selection of fascinators and demonstrated step by step how you can make them yourself.
During Colleen's demo she made some gorgeous pieces using some of the materials that are most popular in millinery this season. Millinery trends this winter season include fabrics such as velvet, leather, felt, fringing and fur. Beret style hats are also very popular.
This gorgeous tophat style fascinator was made during the demonstration using some of our leatherette fabric to cover the top of the hat base. This is very simple to do yourself, you can use a glue gun or preferably a needle and thread to attach the leatherette to the sinamay hat. The sinamay ribbon used to trim the fascinator is also from the millinery section of our fabric floor. They come in a range of colours and are €4.99 for a 1.8 metre ribbon. The wine red colour used for this hat is always a popular colour for winter but you can experiment with your own colour scheme when making your fascinator!
You can use the same materials to make a variety of different styles of hats or fascinators. We have velvet, fur, felt and leatherette which can be used to cover any of our hat bases. You can browse through all of our hat shapes online here: http://shop.vibesandscribes.ie/fascinator-bases/
Here are two more examples from Colleen's demonstration. All of the hats were made using the same colours but give a very different effect when they are finished depending on what materials you decide to use.
We would love to see your own creations so make sure to send us in photos to our facebook page if you have decided to make any hats of your own!
For anyone who missed the demos we have a series of DIY millinery videos on our YouTube channel which you can view here: https://www.youtube.com/user/vibesandscribes/video...
