Description

Contents: Sticky Base, Silk Clay in 2 colours, wooden beads, self-adhesive wiggly eyes, wooden sticks, cotton string and 1 sheet of striped paper. Pattern sheet on the inside of the packaging..

Materials kit for making a pirate ship with figures made from Silk Clay. The packaging is also used in this set. Add your own empty egg box. Instructions included.

In addition to the materials in the kit, you'll also need an empty egg box and a pair of scissors. Start by cutting out the egg box so you have one piece to make the pirate ship and two individual cups (one for the pirate and one for the lookout post). Stick the stick into the base of the ship and glue it down with Sticky Base from the opposite side. Fold the striped paper in half and cut out two holes/slots. Thread the stick through the holes so the paper forms a sail. Thread one of the cups through the stick above the sail and glue it in place so it can't slide down. Cut out the illustrations from the inside of the packaging and glue the pirate flag to the top of the 'mast' (the stick). Glue the remaining flags to the string that you tie around the ship, from the mast (at the base of the egg cup) and around the bottom of the egg box ship. Finally, sculpt the pirate's body around the other egg box cup using Silk Clay and form a hat around the wooden bead to make a head, affixing the two wiggly eyes to make a face. Stick the bead head onto the body with a dab of Sticky Base..

The idea behind this kit/material set is to inspire children to 'get creative with recycling' and reuse empty packaging, both from their home (such as toilet rolls, milk cartons, egg boxes etc.) and the set's own packaging, and use their creativity and imaginations to transform the 'waste' into fun figures. Through the creative process and subsequent play, this kit provides the perfect opportunity to talk and learn about how we can recycle. The children learn that by being creative and using your imagination, you can transform ordinary household waste and basic crafting materials into new things, including fantastic figures, toys and so on. This inspires children to see things in new ways and continue to reuse other items creatively rather than throwing them away.
